So it's become a joke with my car group that I find grandparents in every town I work in. Grandma & Grandpa Lufkin (aka the Horton's) were my first. They are also my favorite. :) I met Marilyn Horton on my first day in that area. She quickly learned that I'm going to be studying Marriage and Family Therapy and told me all about a class she taught at her church for several years. The class was based off of a book called The Challenge of Being a Wife. She gave me a copy and it's been very interesting so far. Darvin, my gpa, was wonderful to me. He insisted that I eat dinner with them every night and kissed me on the cheek when we hugged goodbye. They were so sweet to me. My Grandma & Grandpa El Campo (the Siglock's) live in a Victorian "painted lady" that was built in 1894 and Gma EC decorated the inside to match the turn of the century norm. It's a beautiful house! Gpa EC, Carl, sings in an amazing choir. His group puts on a few shows during the summer in Bay City and all of them are sold out. Lucky for me, though, they had an extra ticket to the June 16th show so I'll be joining the whole family for dinner and a show in a couple weeks. Grandma & Grandpa Wharton (the Wright's) LOVE me, which is understandable since I practically had to give away the farm to match the stupid ADT ad they got in the mail. ;) They are so sweet. Grandma made me cookies and even invited me back for Thanksgiving. I told her I'll be back in Utah by then, but she reassured me that Thanksgiving would be the perfect time to come back and visit. Plus, I have to meet the rest of the family. Hahaha. Yesterday was my first day in Palacios and I'm pretty sure I already have three new sets of grandparents there. I love my job. :)
Speaking of grandparents... all this talk about grandparents got me missing my own so a couple weeks ago I booked a trip to California to visit my favorite old folks. :) I haven't seen them in a loooooong time so I'm really excited to be spending five days dedicated to visiting Grandma G, Grandma Anja, and Grandpa John. I was thinking about visiting my other favorite man in CA, Mr. Disney, at his place in Anaheim, but I think I'm gonna pass because of something I'm gonna blog about in a sec...
Work is going great. I've definitely got the hang of this door-to-door sales thing and I'm saving up college money pretty fast. Yay for college. :) Every now and then I meet the jerk who hates cute girls knocking on his door trying to give him a deal, but like water on a duck's back, I let it slide right off. The only down side to this job is that I have ZERO time to hang out with friends. That's right... I'm making friends!! haha. Mostly girls from my ward. I'm also making a couple possible "more than friends" friends. That's fun, too. Dating is not easy out here, though, because of my schedule. Luckily, last night my team had to leave Palacios early so my date with a guy I met at a party last week didn't have to start at 11 like we planned. :) (The date was way fun. He definitely knows the way to my heart: going on a walk, talking about books we've read while eating chocolate ice cream.) Anyway... on to the REALLY exciting stuff...
Jk, the boys in my car group reminded me I can't forget to talk about them...
Jake, my adopted manager, is so much fun. He loves music and is the one that gets us all dancing to hype us up for the long days of selling. Those are the videos I've posted on Facebook. Jake was the least supportive of my Grey's Anatomy watching and the most excited when I was all caught up. (Something about hating headphones??) Jake, Sheena, and their kids are probably my favorite people out here. We go to the beach together on Sundays and Sheena lets me practice my hair doing skills on her. :) I'm also going to start teaching their kids swimming lessons next week. That will be fun. :) I've never had an older brother, but Jake is the closest thing to it. He's the guy I go to talk to when I need help and he even knew where to take me (DQ) when I was having a bad day.
Taylor (aka Daddy) is absolutely hilarious!!! He's definitely the funniest guy in the office. He has the perfect one liners that gets everybody laughing. I'd easily bet $50 that he was voted Class Clown. He's always cracking jokes about how fat he is, which makes me uncomfortable because if I laugh, that means I agree, right?! But he's just so d*mn funny. I can't help it.
Brad and Austin are pretty quiet, but aren't afraid to jump in on the dancing. Brad usually has his headphones in and Austin just got out here so I don't know them as well. Fun fact: our car group's song is Somebody That I Used To Know (the five people on one guitar version.) They guys make me sing the girl part on my own and make me feel like a rockstar when I yell out "somebody that I used to know."
So on to the really exciting stuff...
The Big Man Upstairs LOVES me!! I'm waking up on the right side of the bed or something. It's been my lucky day for like 4 or 5 days in a row now. Last week I won a trip for two to Orlando, Florida. Four days, three nights, flights and hotel paid for. So DISNEY WORLD HERE I COME!!! (This is why I think I'm gonna pass up Disneyland next week.) And then on Thursday I won a trip for two to Aruba, Hawaii, Jamaica, or Puerto Rico. Five days, four nights, flights and hotel paid for. AND THEN this morning I found a heads up penny on the ground. So today's gonna be a good day, too. :)
Oh, I just remembered!! Today is definitely going to be a good day cuz my brother is transferring to my office!! I'm picking him up from the airport tonight!! I'm glad that he and I will be able to spend some time together this summer before he leaves on his mission in the fall. It'll be kinda weird to be so far away from family... with family, but I'm excited to see him.
So anyway, I just got dropped off so I gotta sign off. I'm off to sell security and I got my lucky penny in my pocket. Wish me luck. ;)
XOXO Y'ALL
